I was born in 1963 in a small town in Alabama called Union Springs. In 1964 my family moved to
Huntsville. And while I have lived and studied in various parts of the world, I have spent most of
my life in Huntsville Alabama.
My educational background was divided between the study of art and architecture. I studied
drawing, painting and sculpture at the North Carolina School of the Arts where I received a high
school diploma in 1982. Also, during 1982 and 1983, I briefly attended the Atlanta College of Art
(currently called the Savannah College of Art and Design) where I studied the same three fields
of the visual arts. The last formal instruction that I received in art was in 1997, when I attended
a small atelier in Florence, Italy, called the Florence Academy of Art. And while there, I received
instruction in the classical techniques of drawing.
My architectural instruction occurred at Auburn University where I graduation in 1989 with a
bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
In 1992, I passed the Architect’s Registration Exam, and currently, I’m licensed in Alabama and
Florida.
As an architect, my experience includes time spent in various firms that were located in London,
Chicago, Atlanta and Huntsville. While at these firms, I worked on a variety of building types:
commercial, educational, institutional, multi-unit mid-rise residential and scientific.
In 2018, I established H Jerome McInnish Architect, LLC. And as a sole practitioner, I have
residential design services for clients who are interested in designing and building mid-level
priced houses.
Having been born and raised in the South, I embrace and serve as an advocate for the warmth
and appeal of traditional southern architecture.
